Fr. Ismael Matambura briefly visits Nyahururu women’s prison

On 10th October 2021, the AJAN team led by Fr. Ismael Matambura briefly stopped over at Nyahururu women’s prison to encourage women incarcerated there. It was following the invitation of Lilian Wambui, a catechist who is a trainer with the AJAN HIV and AIDS Prevention Programme for Youth. Fr. Ismael Matambura, Caleb Mwamisi and Pascalia Sergon, joined the prisoners in a service who were on way back to Nairobi from administering a training in Maralal northern Kenya, were honoured to share a word with the prisoners.

Fr. Ismael encouraged the women to take heart knowing that their contribution to society is still required and they will do well to cultivate the right attitude inside prison so that when they are out they will be more productive.

Pascalia reminded them of the journey of Israelites from Egypt whereby many years were spent in the wilderness because they were not keen to listen to God. In that regard she demonstrated the need for them to reform so that their time in prison can be as short as possible by the law.

It was a great honour for AJAN linking up with Lilian and spending some time with the prisoners. “Walking with the Excluded: Walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice” is an apostolic preference whose implementation AJAN is focused on.
