Fr Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator SJ has been appointed President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Africa and Madagascar (JESAM). Fr Bator assumed office on 16 February.
Fr Bator knows AJAN well. He previously served on the board of the AJAN Director, co-edited a book published in 2012 by AJAN and Paulines Publications, entitled AIDS, 30 years down the line, and has been a frequent and eloquent speaker at AJAN events over the years.
Indeed, Fr Bator is in demand as a speaker all over the world, particularly but not only about his expertise in ecclesiology and the need to place theology in a cultural context.
Hailing from Nigeria and a member of the Jesuit Province of Eastern Africa, Fr Bator has already held several positions of note. From 2009 until 2014, he served as Jesuit Provincial Superior for Eastern Africa. Before and after, he served at Hekima University College in Nairobi, first as Rector and later as Principal.
AJAN wishes Fr Bator all the best as he takes on his new mission.
