The program brought together 24 young participants committed to protecting the environment and advancing holistic health and social justice, reflecting AJAN\u2019s mission to empower youth and promote sustainable wellbeing across Africa. Led by the CA-MDG Environment and Sustainable Development (EDD) team\u2014Efa Ravelonantoandro, Henintsoa Nary Mihamina, and Maeva Randriamisely\u2014the formation combined spiritual grounding, environmental education, and practical action, all rooted in Pope Francis\u2019 encyclical <em>Laudato Si\u2019<\/em> (\u201cPraise be to you\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day One \u2013 Laying the Foundations (March 18)<\/strong><br>The first day opened with enthusiasm and purpose. The morning began with an opening prayer led by Fr. Patric Razafimahafaly, SJ, Director of CA-MDG, followed by a session of physical and mental preparation facilitated by C\u00e9drick and Nardi. Patric Razafimahafaly. Laudato Si\u2019 Mass centered on the mission entrusted to all: to love and protect our Common Home. A group photo closed the morning session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the afternoon, Maeva Randriamisely presented Chapter 1 of the encyclical (<em>\u201cQue se passe-t-il dans notre maison commune\u201d<\/em> [\u201cWhat is happening in our common home\u201d]), followed by Fr. Patric Razafimahafaly, who presented the context and Chapter 2 (<em>\u201cL\u2019\u00c9vangile de la Cr\u00e9ation\u201d<\/em> [\u201cThe Gospel of Creation\u201d]). Participants then reviewed their projects and reflected on the day. Patric Razafimahafaly presented the values and characteristics of a <em>leader \u00e9cologique<\/em> (\u201cecological leader\u201d), drawing from <em>Laudato Si\u2019<\/em>, inviting participants to embody leadership that is meaningful and transformative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To close the day, Fr. Patric guided participants through a time of <em>Discernement et Conversation spirituelle \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re ignatienne<\/em> (\u201cIgnatian-style discernment and spiritual conversation\u201d), emphasizing attentive listening and dialogue as a way to care for all creation, especially the poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day Three \u2013 Discernment and Awakening (March 20)<\/strong><br>The third day focused on awakening and reflection. Participants deepened their understanding of environmental challenges, strengthened their spiritual grounding, and developed practical skills to respond effectively. As a member of the AJAN Network, CA-MDG exemplifies how local Jesuit initiatives contribute to a continental vision: empowering youth, promoting holistic health and social justice, and caring for our Common Home.
