Building on March’s foundational topics, including coping with adolescent challenges, community integration, and the role of physical exercise in mental and physical well-being, the April programming deepened reflection on relationships and personal values.

The highlight of the April series was the April 21 edition of our youth-centred program Connector, featuring guest speaker Mr. JohnFisher, a teacher from St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School, Nairobi, Kenya. The discussion explored whether young men and women can maintain friendships without romantic involvement. Through practical and values-based insights, the session encouraged listeners to reflect on boundaries, mutual respect, and emotional maturity in their relationships.

Listener feedback revealed diverse perspectives. Many young people affirmed that cross-gender friendships are possible when grounded in respect and clear boundaries. Others expressed scepticism, noting that romantic feelings often complicate such relationships, while some emphasised that maintaining friendship requires strong emotional discipline. A recurring theme across responses was the role of parents and guardians. While many listeners valued parental guidance in decision-making, others highlighted challenges in communication and understanding within families.

Audience feedback from April indicates high engagement across the radio’s broadcast areas, with listeners valuing the opportunity to discuss important and sensitive topics openly. The discussions on physical activity and peer support were particularly noted for promoting resilience and mental well-being. Overall, the AJAN–Radio Kwizera partnership continues to foster informed, reflective, and value-driven dialogue among youth, contributing to their holistic development and empowering them to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and responsibility.

Par, William Shayo, SJ.

Radio Kwizera-(RK) Media & marketing officer.

Throughout March and April 2026, Radio Kwizera, in partnership with the African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN), continued to facilitate dynamic youth-centred discussions addressing key social and developmental challenges.
