{"id":4713,"date":"2015-03-12T09:53:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T06:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/ajanews-121-july-august-2013\/"},"modified":"2015-03-12T09:53:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T06:53:00","slug":"ajanews-121-july-august-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/ajanews-121-july-august-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"AJANews 121 &#8211; July\/August 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4712\" src=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/chikuniajanews-121.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" width=\"710\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ajan.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/chikuniajanews-121.jpg 710w, https:\/\/ajan.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/chikuniajanews-121-300x95.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">On 31 July, Fr Michael Lewis SJ, President of the Jesuit Superiors of Africa and Madagascar (JESAM), declared Chikuni Parish Home-Based Care (HBC) program in southern Zambia as the winner of the first award for excellence in Jesuit AIDS ministry in Africa and Madagascar. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">JESAM and the African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN) launched the award this year to identify, reward and share best practices among AIDS projects led or supported by Jesuits or collaborators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">In this issue of AJANews, we bring you an outline of each project that submitted an entry for the award, detailing the best practice they selected:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Zambia: Chikuni Parish Home-Based Care<\/strong> \u2013 The Chikuni Parish Home-Based Care (HBC) program in southern Zambia was awarded for excellence for its new four-phase approach that strives to offer a more individualised and sustainable service to over 1000 people with HIV. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/zambia-chikuni-parish-home-based-care-hbc\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Burundi: Service Yezu Mwiza<\/strong> \u2013 The best practice presented by the Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM) is a mobile clinic for people with HIV that has led to increased rates of treatment adherence and of healthy children born to HIV-positive mothers. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/burundi-service-yezu-mwiza-2\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Kenya: Uzima <\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2013 For t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">he Uzima program of St Joseph the Worker parish in Kangemi,<span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> its best practice is the participatory approach adopted in all its prevention and care activities.<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/kenya-uzima\/\">Read more<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Burkina Faso: Association Solidarit\u00e9, Vie et Sant\u00e9 (ASVS)<\/strong> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2013 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The ASVS in Ouagadougou caters mostly to women with HIV who are poor and have been abandoned by their families. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/burkina-faso-association-solidarite-vie-et-sante\/\">Read more<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Kenya: St Aloysius Secondary School<\/strong> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2013 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">St Aloysius aims to provide quality education to needy orphans and vulnerable children living in Kibera slum, Nairobi. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/kenya-st-aloysius-secondary-school\/\">Read more<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Kenya: Upendo <\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2013 Upendo was set up in 1995 by St Joseph Parish in Kangemi as a unit for children in need. Since its inception, more than 450 children have benefitted from education, nutritional and psychosocial support. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajan.africa\/pt\/kenya-upendo\/\">Read more<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> <span lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Togo: Centre Esp\u00e9rance Loyola (CEL)<\/strong> <\/span><\/span>\u2013 The CEL in Togo presented as its best practice a summer camp that teaches youth the values of solidarity and mutual respect.
