Reflection on AHAPPY ToT in Abuja by Elisius Jecinta Chinenye

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank God for the beautiful gift of these four days together at St. Joseph Mukasa Catholic Church, Gidan Mangoro, Abuja, Nigeria. Brought together by the African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN), we came as youth hungry to grow — and God met us right where we were.

We were gently reminded of something we sometimes forget — that we are deeply loved, carefully made, and purposefully placed in this world. Rediscovering our identity as beloved children of God became the foundation for everything else, we learned.
With open eyes and honest hearts, we looked at the world around us — the pain of HIV/AIDS, broken families, drug abuse, poverty, and injustice. It was not easy to face, but we found comfort knowing that God never turned away. He stepped into our mess and chose to heal and restore us.

We learned, we discussed, we challenged one another. We talked about the real vulnerabilities we young people face every day — and why true protection and healing can never be found in shortcuts, but in truth, abstinence, faithfulness, and genuine care for one another.
Finally, we asked ourselves the hard question — what kind of person do I want to become? We left with a renewed commitment to virtue, to integrity, to compassion — and a deep desire to go back and walk alongside the young people in our communities.
We came as participants. We leave as missionaries of hope.
Your life is unique — cherish it, protect it, and care for it as a gift.
