JOFRANCI SERVICES Launches Digital Skills Training for Youth in Kisangani, DRC

Empowering young people with practical digital skills is at the heart of the African Jesuit AIDS Network’s (AJAN) Jesuit Youth Social Entrepreneurship Action (JYSEA) program. Among its most successful youth-led initiatives is JOFRANCI SERVICES, founded by Joël Londjiringa Bahati and nurtured under the guidance of Centre Maïsha in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

As AJAN continues to create opportunities for young people to acquire skills that enhance their employability and foster innovation, JOFRANCI SERVICES is advancing this vision through the launch of a new computer training initiative as part of its expansion program. The program seeks to equip young people and entrepreneurs with the digital competencies they need to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.

A computer training session, called Weekend Info, was launched on Saturday, 11 July 2026, in Kisangani, Tshopo Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the initiative of JOFRANCI SERVICES, with the support of several partners. This training aims to strengthen the digital skills of young people, workers, and entrepreneurs during the school holidays.

According to JOFRANCI SERVICES coordinator Joël Londjiringa Bahati, this initiative responds to a strong demand for computer training in the city of Kisangani. The Diocesan Pastoral Center provided a training space for the program, while Centre Maïsha of the Jesuits and the Tshopo Provincial Youth Council offered their support.

“We have designed a program that takes place only on Saturdays and Sundays for eight weekends, from July 11 to August 30. At the end of this training, participants will receive a certificate of participation,” explained Mr. Bahati.

Open to both young people and adults, the training program already has 17 participants from several communes in Kisangani. Organizers hope to reach around fifty beneficiaries, a limit determined by available resources and logistics.

The program includes five essential modules:
– Introduction to computers
– Word processing with Microsoft Word
– Excel basics
– Presentation techniques with PowerPoint
– Internet use

Particular attention will also be paid to effective information retrieval, cybersecurity, personal data protection, and the professional use of social networks and artificial intelligence tools.

For the organizers, this training aims primarily to improve the employability of participants and promote digital entrepreneurship. “Today, being unfamiliar with computers is practically equivalent to being illiterate in the professional world. We want participants to develop skills that will allow them to more easily access employment or create their own businesses,” emphasized Joël Londjiringa Bahati.

Also an advisor in charge of youth employment and entrepreneurship within the Tshopo Provincial Youth Council, he assured that support will be maintained after the training in order to help beneficiaries consolidate their achievements through the JOFRANCI SERVICES computer laboratory.

Registration remains open for those wishing to join the training in the coming weekends. Although there is a fee, it is offered at a reduced cost thanks to the support of partners who have facilitated the provision of the necessary equipment and infrastructure.
