In sub-Saharan Africa, around 14.8 million children have been orphaned by AIDS and they need intensive and wide-ranging support to go beyond survival to live life to the full. Most Jesuit AIDS ministries reach out to orphans and vulnerable children in one way or other. Centres, associations, parishes, schools and CLC groups help them as much as they can. Some institutions are dedicated solely to orphans, among them six community homes run by the Jesuit parish of Fonte Boa in western Mozambique, and Nyumbani and St Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School in Kenya.
