SYM Receives Donated Vehicle to Boost Mobile Clinic Operations and Services in Burundi

In a context where access to healthcare remains a major challenge for the most vulnerable populations, Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM) in Burundi, has reached a decisive milestone in strengthening its community interventions. The acquisition of a Toyota Land Cruiser, donated on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by Jesuitenweltweit (German Jesuits), marks a strategic step forward in the deployment of its activities in the field. Far more than simple logistical support, this donation constitutes a major operational lever for intensifying and expanding the mobile clinic strategy. It will allow for more effective access to isolated communities, often excluded from traditional healthcare systems, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services. Through this support, Service Yezu Mwiza capacity to act is strengthened, with a clear ambition: to sustainably bring healthcare closer to the most remote populations and to respond concretely to public health challenges.

A vehicle that arrives at just the right time to bring healthcare closer to communities

Since 2008, Service Yezu Mwiza Mobile Clinic has played a crucial role in providing access to healthcare for vulnerable populations living in and around the capital, Bujumbura. Through its activities, the mobile clinic offers a range of medical and preventative services directly within communities, particularly in areas where access to healthcare facilities remains limited.

However, logistical challenges have long been a major obstacle to the effective implementation of field activities. With only one vehicle to cover vast areas, currently encompassing 16 sites, it was often difficult to reach certain remote locations or ensure the consistency of community interventions. The arrival of this new vehicle is therefore a concrete response to these challenges. It will not only improve the mobility of medical teams but also strengthen the planning and effectiveness of field activities.

The mobile clinic is central to Service Yezu Mwiza approach of bringing healthcare closer to the most vulnerable populations. It allows for direct intervention in communities, offering essential services such as awareness campaigns, screenings, medical consultations, and patient care, particularly for those living with chronic illnesses or in precarious situations. However, the effectiveness of this strategy has largely depended on the availability of suitable transportation, which has been a major constraint until now.

The integration of this new vehicle into the operational framework significantly strengthens this strategy. It will allow for an increase in the frequency of field missions, broaden geographical coverage, and improve the responsiveness of teams to the needs of beneficiaries. Furthermore, this reinforcement will contribute to ensuring better continuity of care and a greater presence within communities, essential elements for building trust and guaranteeing a lasting impact of interventions.

A vehicle for the Mobile Clinic and for the beneficiaries

According to the Executive Director of SYM, this vehicle is for the Mobile Clinic and for SYM beneficiaries. The vehicle will allow Service Yezu Mwiza to intensify and increase the frequency of interventions in the most remote and hard-to-reach areas, where many beneficiaries live in vulnerable situations.
More specifically, the vehicle will facilitate the transport of medical staff and community teams; ensure the delivery of medical supplies and equipment necessary for activities; strengthen the continuity of services offered during community outreach; and extend the coverage of activities to new areas that were previously difficult to access.

In this way, by enabling medical teams to reach the most remote areas, this vehicle will become a true local tool, helping to reduce inequalities in access to healthcare.

A symbol of solidarity and compassion from the Jesuitenweltweit organization at SYM

Beyond its material value, this vehicle is a powerful symbol of solidarity and fraternity from German Jesuits to Jesuits working in marginalized communities around the world. Indeed, through the donation of this vehicle, Jesuitenweltweit once again demonstrates its unwavering and concrete commitment to vulnerable populations and its dedication to supporting the social work of the Society of Jesus worldwide.
This support also illustrates the importance of international partnerships in carrying out projects with a strong social impact. Thanks to this collaboration, Service Yezu Mwiza can continue its mission effectively and with hope for the future.

Acknowledgments and gratitude to jesuitenweltweit and to all benefactors

Service Yezu Mwiza wishes to express its profound gratitude to jesuitenweltweit for this generous gesture, which marks a turning point in the development of its community activities. This donation represents much more than a simple vehicle: it is an essential tool that will save lives, prevent disease, and strengthen hope within the most impoverished communities in Kabezi, Mukike, Gatumba, and other remote areas of the country.

A renewed commitment to serving the most vulnerable

With this new support, the Service Yezu Mwiza reaffirms its commitment to continuing its mission of serving the most vulnerable populations, particularly those living in remote areas.
This vehicle will not only improve the effectiveness of interventions but also open new avenues for extending services to communities that need them most.
By providing this new tool to the Mobile Clinic, Service Yezu Mwiza strengthens its capacity to respond to current health challenges and continue to deliver quality assistance to beneficiaries.

Conclusion:
The acquisition of this new vehicle marks a significant milestone in the history of the Service Yezu Mwiza Mobile Clinic. Thanks to the generous support of jesuitenweltweit , the teams now have an essential additional logistical resource to reach people living in the most remote areas.
This act of solidarity will contribute significantly to improving access to healthcare for vulnerable communities and strengthening the presence of the SYM among those who need it most.
Service Yezu Mwiza reiterates its sincere gratitude to jesuitenweltweit for its invaluable support and ongoing commitment to the well-being of communities.
