Zimbabwean Youth Empowered for Faithful Leadership and Life Beyond School

From June 20 to 22, 2025, the Zimbabwe Young Christian Students (ZYCS) of the Gweru Diocese hosted a transformative study session at Regina Mundi High School. Bringing together 40 high school students, the three-day program focused on integral youth development, spiritual formation, and career guidance. Designed to build community and deepen faith, the gathering served as a platform for young people to reflect on personal growth and the realities facing today’s youth.

Throughout the session, students participated in group discussions, prayer, and workshops that addressed mental health, drug abuse, and the practical application of faith in everyday life. These themes were carefully chosen to align with the growing challenges faced by youth, particularly those navigating adolescence in a rapidly changing social environment.

The program’s methodology was rooted in the well-established Catholic framework of “See, Judge, Act, and Reflect”, which encourages youth to critically assess their surroundings, take meaningful action, and remain grounded in Catholic social teachings. By the end of the session, participants emerged as mental health and social change champions, equipped with the tools to positively influence their schools and communities.

Many students shared personal reflections, citing increased self-awareness, renewed spiritual strength, and a deeper commitment to both their faith and social responsibility. For ZYCS, this outcome affirms its mission to form young people who not only grow in personal character but also make a deliberate option for the poor, advocating for justice and compassion in their daily lives.
