AACOSE 8; Showcasing Strength of Youth-led innovation in designing scalable and sustainable solutions

Following African Jesuit AIDS Network-JCAM participation at the 8th edition of the Annual Africa Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (AACOSE) that was held from May 14th to 16th, 2025, at Tangaza University, Nairobi, Kenya, we had the opportunity to showcase a range of inspiring youth-led innovations rooted in the principles of the circular economy. Among the highlights were contributions from our young changemakers from St. Joseph Developments Programme (SJDP) Kangemi, Kenya, who presented their creative solutions with passion and purpose. Below are some reflections and innovations shared by this dynamic team.

We were deeply honored to support the representation of St. Joseph Kangemi through the JYSEA Program at the 8th Annual Africa Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (AACOSE).

Our sincere gratitude goes to AJAN for making our participation possible. Their generous sponsorship enabled our team made up of Mr. Edward Musungu, Ms. Nelly Agisa, and Mr. Joseph Njoroge to fully engage in this transformative learning experience.

One of the most impactful moments for us was the chance to present our eco-friendly charcoal briquette project, an initiative under the Ignatian Eco-Waste Solutions. Sharing our innovation; charcoal briquettes made from recycled organic waste, with a continental audience was both affirming and energizing. It opened doors to meaningful conversations with potential investors, collaborators, and fellow entrepreneurs working on similar initiatives.

Throughout the summit, we interacted with countless passionate individuals addressing real community issues with creativity and courage. These exchanges not only broadened our perspective but also reinforced our belief in the power of collaboration.

Several key lessons stood out from the summit. First, we witnessed the undeniable strength of youth-led innovation in designing scalable and sustainable solutions. Second, we discovered the power of storytelling, not just as a pitch tool, but as a bridge for connection, empathy, and understanding. The summit also underscored the importance of weaving environmental responsibility into every phase of a social enterprise. Most importantly, we came to appreciate the critical role of partnerships and networks in enhancing impact and sustainability.

The 8th edition of the Annual Africa Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (AACOSE) 2025 was far more than a conference, it was a defining moment. We return reenergized, better equipped, and with a renewed sense of purpose. We look forward to sharing our insights with other young people and continuing the journey toward a more just, sustainable future.
