“My people perish for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6

With the increasing uptake of computer technology and internet facilities in Africa, e-learning opportunities have
become a feasible and cost-effective possibility for AJAN to scale up its education and training programs by creating an
HIV/AIDS online faculty in collaboration with Arrupe Jesuit University (AJU), a fully accredited private, Catholic.
international and multicultural higher education institution run by the Society of Jesus in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Through this collaboration, AJAN continues to strengthen local capacity for HIV/AIDS response, pastoral care, and
community accompaniment across the continent.

What our STUDENTS & lecturers say

I have attended the course on HIV and pastoral care. I liked the course, and I have learnt a lot. It is very useful for my mission and congregation, even for my growth. I thought we had done with HIV, but from this course, I have seen that we still need to do more, especially working with the community, involving them so that they understand that there is still a problem. Thanks to our Tutors who were well prepared and were giving input with passion.

Sr. Melania, Student.

The course equipped one with counselling and pastoral skills that are invaluable when working with individuals affected by HIV and AIDS. It also offered a biblical approach to addressing pandemics, instilling hope and courage to fight against HIV and AIDS globally. This course teaches one to adopt a positive approach to HIV and AIDS, promotes human dignity by reducing stigma and discrimination and empowers communities to coexist with people living with HIV positively. I believe it’s a valuable resource for anyone looking to make a difference in the community.

Sr. Hondana Artidge Student

The timely idea, planning and roll out of the course was spot on and the first registration cohort clearly demonstrates an all-round skill required by community service practitioners and service providers, e.g. people in faraway disciplines from health giving, science and philosophy of society yet they run missions in health, education, community practice and environment which require clear knowledge on HIV and AIDS.

Prof. Dominique Byurugaba, Lecturer, AHELP.
Transforming Lives Through a Wide Network of Institutions

The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda

"As we come together, we are sailing, facing different storms as we live in distinct parts of the world. But as churches, we must work together, to see the gospel clearly, and speak with one voice. We want to move
together, and in facing the storm of HIV and AIDS, faith communities can be agents of change."

Transforming Lives Through a Wide Network of Institutions

Fr. Ismael Matambura SJ., AJAN Director

Our profound gratitude to the Bishops of Italy (CEI) for supporting this initiative. Their support enabled AJAN to continue fulfilling the mission of Christ entrusted to the Society of Jesus through AJAN: restoring people’s dignity and equipping minds for positive lasting transformation.
