Moments of Inspiration for the AJAN AHAPPY Club as AJAN Director Visits Collège Alfajiri, DRC

The AJAN AHAPPY Club at Collège Alfajiri had the honour of welcoming Fr. Ismaël Matambura, AJAN Director, for a special meeting themed “Others and Me.” This gathering offered a profound opportunity for club members and guests to share and reflect on an inspiring message.

Fr. Ismaël conveyed vital insights about the mission of AHAPPY, an AJAN program dedicated to empowering young people and transforming society. He highlighted AJAN’s remarkable evolution and the impactful efforts made to help young individuals change their lives and uplift their communities.

“Our mission is to change the world with others and for others,” he declared. These powerful words resonated deeply, igniting the passion of young leaders to fully commit to this vision.

The meeting concluded with a photo session featuring Fr. Ismaël, capturing a moment of fellowship and shared purpose.

Here is some feedback from members of the AJAN AHAPPY Club:

Edgard Bitawa, former club president and current member of the Club, says:
“Serving as President of the AJAN-AHAPPY Club at Collège Alfajiri during the 2025–2026 academic year was far more than an honorary position; it was a true vocation in service of youth.

This experience was marked by defining moments that shaped my character. I first think of the meticulous preparation for our conferences, where every detail mattered in transforming a simple idea into a message with real impact. I fondly recall our Wednesday meetings: moments of sharing and strategy with my colleagues that fueled our work and strengthened our cohesion around a common ideal.

Yet the most rewarding experience was undoubtedly our outreach to the wider community. Our sessions on Radio Maria, educating young people about sexually transmitted infections, allowed us to break taboos and deliver an essential message of prevention. Stepping outside the school environment to speak to the heart of the city was a lesson in humility and responsibility.

I conclude this year with pride, having contributed alongside a remarkable team to raising awareness and fostering engagement. This presidency will remain for me a symbol of sincere civic commitment and lasting friendship among committed colleagues.”

NDAGANO KABEYA, Vice-President of the AJAN AHAPPY Club and currently a pre-finalist in the third year of Scientific Humanities at Collège Alfajiri, says:
“I am very pleased to have benefited from the training offered by the AJAN AHAPPY Club at Collège Alfajiri. The structure of our meetings — in the form of presentations and debates — has been extremely valuable for my personal growth within a group and has provided an opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills through open, pressure-free discussions.

Although I was not always consistent in participating in our radio broadcasts, I remain grateful for the few sessions I attended. Our conferences have been opportunities for learning and practical application of the members’ various skills. They gave me a chance not only to learn but also to establish myself within a group. Now, as the current Vice-President after a year of formation, I truly appreciate the impact this club has had on my personal development.

I express my deep gratitude for the training and activities I have received through this club, and I also thank the Jesuit Father who created this opportunity for us.”

Célestine Mirindi, member of the AJAN Club at Collège Alfajiri, says:
“I have been a member of the AJAN AHAPPY Club at Collège Alfajiri for two years now, and for me, being part of the Club is much more than just an experience — it is a true school of life where I learn a little more each day about my body, my spirituality, healthy habits, understanding my community, and the role I play in it.

Over time, I have learned to understand myself better, make more conscious choices, and not be swept away by the pressure of others. I have realized that growing up also means knowing when to say no, respecting oneself, and thinking about the future. AJAN has helped open my eyes to important realities, approach essential topics without taboo, and develop a more responsible way of thinking.

But above all, I have learned that each of us has influence, and even a small one can make a difference. Today, I continue to learn, grow, and move forward with stronger values, improving myself with everything I can gain from our activities.”

It was a privilege for the AJAN Club to host such a distinguished figure. Members left inspired to advance their mission further, resolute in their commitment to others and determined to change the world, one step at a time.

The AJAN Club extends heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Ismaël for his inspiration and unwavering support!
