Mozambique

The Jesuit parish of Fonte Boa in western Mozambique runs the Sementes do amanhã (Seeds of tomorrow) project. The project consists of six community homes for orphans – one in every zone of the parish – in villages close to primary schools, with eight or nine children in each home. The first was opened in June 2008 and the sixth finished in 2010. Each home takes 15 children and has its own diesel flour mill to promote self-sufficency. Local communities are fully engaged in the project. They provided manual work in the construction stages, selected the children, and they monitor the performance and maintenance of the homes.
