St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School marked its annual St. Aloysius Day on 28 June 2026 with a vibrant celebration that reflected the school’s enduring commitment to forming young people of competence, character, and faith. Guided by the theme, “Nurturing Competence, Character and Faith for Service,” the occasion brought together students, staff, parents, alumni, friends of the school, and distinguished guests in a joyful celebration of the school’s Jesuit educational mission.

The celebrations were graced by Fr. Phillip L. Boroughs, SJ, whose presence underscored the significance of the day and its message of holistic formation.

A Eucharistic Celebration of Faith

The day’s activities commenced with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, during which the school community gathered to give thanks for God’s continued guidance and blessings upon the institution.

In his homily, Fr. Boroughs encouraged students to pursue academic excellence while cultivating integrity, compassion, and a genuine spirit of service. He reminded the congregation that authentic education extends beyond intellectual achievement, shaping the whole person by nurturing the heart, conscience, and character.

One of the most moving moments of the Mass was the reception of four students into the Catholic Church. Their admission was celebrated with great joy by the entire congregation and stood as a powerful witness to the school’s commitment to accompanying young people in their spiritual journey. The occasion highlighted the school’s dedication to fostering an environment where faith grows alongside academic and personal development.

New CBE Laboratories Open Doors to Practical Learning

A major milestone of this year’s celebration was the official blessing and commissioning of the school’s newly established Competency-Based Education (CBE) laboratories. The facilities include laboratories for:

• Home Science
• Electricity
• Building and Construction

The new laboratories represent a significant investment in practical, skills-based learning and are designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and hands-on competencies required under Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum. They will provide learners with opportunities to translate classroom knowledge into real-world skills while preparing them for future academic and professional pathways.

Forming Women and Men for Others

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Boroughs commended St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School for its unwavering commitment to holistic education that integrates academic excellence with moral formation and spiritual growth.

He challenged students to become women and men of competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment, using their talents and abilities in service of others and for the promotion of the common good. His message echoed the core ideals of Jesuit education, which seeks to form leaders who are intellectually capable, ethically grounded, and dedicated to building a more just and compassionate society.

A Celebration of the Jesuit Educational Mission

The 2026 St. Als Day celebration was more than an annual school event; it was a reaffirmation of the school’s mission to educate the whole person.
