The Center Arrupe Madagascar – The Health and Family Program for young people

The months of September and October were a period of intense sensitization for the Pastoral Health and Family at the level of the Center Arrupe Madagascar (MDG CA). Indeed, with its vision “a fairer society, a more viable world and a more livable environment”, the MDG CA channeled its efforts for the potential offered by young people to contribute to the achievement of this vision. The integral development of young people through these 4 programs, in particular the Pastoral Health and Family PSF, the Citizen Participation and Economic Efficiency Program PCE, the Environment and Sustainable Development Program EDD and the Research and Documentation Program PRD was then required. This falls within the framework of the universal apostolic preference 03 of the Society of Jesus: to walk with young people.

The Health and Family Program promotes in particular good values, to strengthen young people as full members of the family, a source of happiness and hope to fully live their youthful period. A youth who faces many challenges on a daily basis and who do more to achieve their dreams, their expectations, their hopes, their vocation, in short their future.

Some activities relating to this objective were then organized, starting with sensitizing young people in the fight against violence against girls and women, to be ambassadors of their respective regions in this hard fight, in order to prevent , to reduce and even eradicate this scourge which persists for several decades because of harmful practices linked to tradition, discrimination in education, various stereotypes that devalue the potential of girls and women, etc. This activity is still in progress, young people are producing awareness tools for advocacy activities in this fight. The results will be presented later.

In addition, a training course on coaching young people took place on September 3, 2021, with 34 participants, all educators and managers at educational establishment level. This training is part of the promotion of AHAPPY, given that the MDG CA promotes that this program should be an integral part of the EVA (Education for Life and Love). By moving in this direction and by pursuing the perspectives of personal development of young people, a session on coaching would complement the EVA and the AHAPPY for a more sustainable vision. Indeed, coaching helps to know how to use its potentialities and take advantage of its advantages for better success.

In pursuing its mission, the PSF team has a monthly meeting with 75 young people from a parish located in a popular district of the capital. The team responded to their request because the contexts and situations of young people in the neighborhood encouraged them to follow a regular exchange in order to promote the right behaviors to adopt to avoid entering an early intimate relationship which has done a lot. of victims. This session therefore began on Sunday August 22 with basic themes of knowing yourself and others, with an introduction to the foundation of a lasting relationship. The second meeting on October 17 is to cultivate the spirit of peace and non-violence in this relationship with others. It is above all about building a healthy and harmonious relationship in a couple, as the theme indicates, while focusing on the different factors that make up success for the future, such as studies, profession, the different forms of responsibility of young people. A short film on abstinence before the marriage was planned. The meeting ended with a mature reflection on the place of spiritual discernment in the lives of young people. This is also the topic to be explored for the next session, which we will base on the AHAPPY manual.

As the date of October 11 is defined as being the International Day of the Girl, having as the theme of this year: “Digital generation. Our generation ”, the MDG / PSF CA did not fail to mark this event with a conference held on Saturday 23 October, under the theme:“ young girls and the digital world ”. Indeed, the situation generated by the coronavirus pandemic has stimulated the use of digital platforms in many areas, including education, access to information, health awareness, professional communications, etc. It is then a question of raising the voice in favor of girls so that no one is excluded from entering the digital world. This also requires support, given that violence against girls through the digital world manifests itself through social networks.

The speakers at the conference are all actors who advocate education for all, namely representatives of a public high school who presented the “Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics or STEM” program for young high school girls in their establishment, followed by an ambassador of the association of girl scouting who shared the potential of the young people of their association by using the digital platform. However, some warnings for the protection of young girls facing the various abuses that can harm young girls were presented by a police inspector working in the service of the fight against cybercrime, and a private organization working in this field.
