On March 15, 2025, an inspiring and meaningful ceremony took place to award the top two major submissions of the AHAPPY Youth Storytelling Contest 2024, by Centre Arrupe, Madagascar (CA-MDG). The event was all about celebrating creativity, social awareness, and the commitment of young talents. One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of the overall winner of the AHAPPY Youth Storytelling Contest 2024, who came from CA-MDG.

The contest that was open to young individuals between the ages of 15 and 25, encouraged participants to explore and present powerful stories addressing some of society’s most pressing issues. The theme “Be Inspired and Inspire” challenged the youth to share their perspectives on various challenges they encounter in their daily lives, fostering a space for education and empowerment.

The winning video, “Stop Drugs” created by Rasolonjatovo Jean Bebeto from Madagascar, focused on the critical issue of drug abuse. This poignant and courageous film stood out not only for its technical quality but also for its timely message on the dangers of drug addiction, a growing concern in Madagascar and the whole of Africa. Through its powerful visuals and compelling narrative, Bebeto’s video raised awareness about the importance of fighting against the drug epidemic, encouraging young people to steer clear of destructive habits.
The second submission, “Dare to Denounce Violence Against Girls and Women” by the CA MDG, focused on the fight against violence against girls and women. The videos submitted for this contest denounced the silence surrounding this issue and encouraged breaking the silence. This contest allowed 13 young talents to present their works, which were rich in creativity and deeply embedded with powerful messages.

Three prizes were awarded during the ceremony, which will not only support these young people financially but also boost their self-confidence and belief in their future endeavors.
The ceremony was also an opportunity for the young people who received AHAPPY training in December to mobilize for important issues requiring a stance. In addition to their monthly radio programs and street interviews (micro-trottoirs), they took part in animating the ceremony.

The event concluded with enriching exchanges and served as a powerful reminder of the immense potential of youth to make a difference through their creativity. This ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young people who are actively engaged in social change through artistic expression, promoting positive transformation in their communities.
Congratulations to Rasolonjatovo Jean Bebeto and his team for his impactful contribution and for becoming the overall winner of the AHAPPY Youth Storytelling Contest 2024. His work, along with the efforts of all the participants, has shown the power of storytelling as a tool for raising awareness and creating meaningful change.
We look forward to seeing how this initiative continues to inspire the next generation of leaders and changemakers.
